High CPU Activity on Google Chrome, Chromium - SOLVED!

To reduce high (at times over 50%) CPU usage, I unchecked "Enable phishing and malware protection" under chrome://settings/ > Show Advanced Settings > Privacy.

  • In Windows 7, run Windows Task Manager, open the Processes tab, then sort by CPU. Process chrome.exe*32 should be using a much smaller percentage of CPU resources.
  • In Linux/UNIX, in the console or in a terminal, run top, sorting by CPU should show the same results.
